Understanding the Emotional Impact of Job Searching

Try this reframing exercise to build your resilience skills in any situation.

  1. Write down the emotions you’re feeling about your job search – recognize them without judgment. 
  2. Redirect.
  3. For each emotion, write a positive action or thought. 

For example, if you feel rejected after a missed opportunity, redirect by noting what you learned from the experience.

Opportunity Exercise: List five roles or industries you’ve always been curious about but have yet to explore.

Reframe: Expanding your horizons. 

Pursuing a promotion is an opportunity to showcase your skills and value. It’s a journey of professional growth.

Growth Exercise: Identify three skills essential for the desired promotion and plan actions to develop or highlight these skills.

 

Changing Industries or Roles

Reframe: A fresh perspective. 

Transitioning to a new industry or role is a chance to bring fresh perspectives and diversify your skill set.

Skill Mapping Exercise: List your current skills and map how they can transfer and add value to the new industry or role.

 

Navigating After Termination

Reframe: Turn a setback into a stepping stone.
